5. Latitudinal Dependence

[25]  With the r(foF2) max dependence on solar and geomagnetic activity, looking for the possible latitudinal dependence of r(foF2) max one should compare different stations in the same solar and geomagnetic conditions. We took 12 stations for 1980 located at different geomagnetic latitudes between 30o and 60o shown in Figure 10. We took also auroral Sodankylä (64o) and Kiruna (65o) stations (not shown in Figure 10). One can see from Figure 9b that these stations provide r(foF2) for Ap < 6 about 0.4-0.6 and that disagrees completely with the plot in Figure 10. This is due to the fact that the formation of the F2 region within the auroral oval is governed by different processes as compared to middle latitudes. We will consider this question later discussing the possible mechanisms of the r(foF2) effect.
