Abstract[1] A joint consideration of the anomalous ionograms registered on board Mir space station (and interpreted as ionospheric irregularities with sharp lateral gradients) and macroirregularities of the ionosphere detected by ground-based ionosondes. A hypothesis is proposed and analyzed that these irregularities detected by two principally different methods have a seismogenic nature.Received 4 April 2003; accepted 6 February 2004; published 28 July 2004.
