Abstract

[1]  Described in this paper are the tectonic positions, as well as the geologic and seismologic manifestations, of some largest earthquakes which took place in north Eurasia during the last 15 years. Some information is also provided for the prehistoric activity of the earthquake-generating structural features. Conclusions are derived for the size of the earthquake foci and for their internal geological structure.

Received 15 November 1998; published 5 March 2000.

Keywords: tectonics of source zones, North Eurasia, seismologic manifestations, earthquake foci.
